Dear Ones, We are well so far.  Our three daughters are working from their respective homes in NYC (Rowan), DC (Corinna), Grapevine Texas (Maren).  We worry most about Rowan and her financé who continues to commute by subway.  So far so good.
I planted peas, too, Deb! Way back on March 21st--I wanted to do something hopeful. The lore is that a former First Selectman's father planted his peas on March 17 every year --right through the snow! Other lore advises Do not plant before Memorial Day in Hartland. Such a mild winter and so many signs of spring, I decided to go with the first--perhaps folly.  We'll see.  Phoebe is back building her nest in the gable above our bedroom window. The bears are out (see photos), the bobcat patrols, the turkeys are strutting and displaying their beautiful mating fans, the heron has returned to the pond. Soon bluets and tiny Northern white violets will carpet the dam, and hellebore will pop up along the banks of the brook. All these signs of emerging spring encourage my heart that this pandemic will subside and pass.  We are very grateful for where we live. We walk every day to the pond and around the land for fresh air and exercise. Harald is much slower and consistently forgetful with his early stages dementia, but those of you who know him would not notice much difference--he would still know you--but no bear hugs for now.  Food shopping has indeed been a challenge, but a kind friend has helped and we have gone to our local dairy and orchard bakery to keep it small, close to home and to help local business. The orchard has very generously been offering her own supplies for sale at very little cost in addition to her regular menu.
Who knew that a bandana, coffee filter and rubber bands could make a mask? Finally a use for all those newspaper rubber bands!I am so impressed with all the ingenuity and compassionate, generous giving in my little town and I am sure elsewhere. We strung up by the end of our driveway and pond entrance Tibetan prayer flags from Corinna's semester in India a loong time ago--it seemed like a good time to let those prayers fly into the air!
Om mani padme hum!
Not sure that I will be available on the 11th, I wish you all a blessed Passover, Easter and Earth Day !
Alana

Dear All, I am looking forward to our Zoom reunion on Saturday at high noon. I will probably use Tom’s laptop so I will appear as Tom, but that way I can see your faces. I am working on a Food memoir for my grandkids with illustrations. Can’t go to my studio so I’m working from home. We had to close our Portland store due to our Gov. Janet Mills’ orders. She has been an awesome leader here. My daughter Eliza is making masks at our little factory.GrandsonJasper came home from France and his bother Silas  from Canada where he’s attending McGill. They had to self quarantine together but are fine now.We are getting out to walk every day, Tom biking. I’m pruning my fruit trees and turning over the garden. The birds don’t know anything is wrong!Sending love and hope,Kate

hey everyone
Jane is the tech guru so she might send out something more about Zoom for those who haven’t used it.I will be sending a Zoom meeting invitation -to our whole Oxford cyber community-at noon EST, this Saturday April 11th
Please make a note in your calendar ******* taking into account where you live and what time it will be where you live! To fully participate,  enable video and make sure you unmute your microphone (lower left corner  of the Zoom screen) so we can hear you.
Everyone might not be able to make it this week but we can always do it again (during virus quarantine….or even afterwards!)
Requests:please don’t have a bright window behind you as it it almost impossible to see you as you are thrown in deep shadowplease do NOT choose a virtual background (ocean and waving palm trees, Iceland etc.) while this is temporarily amusing, in it is quite annoying when people move against that background. Trust me, this is true

cheersRena

Hi all from Alaska! I am doing fine, and am still seeing patients who can’t be postponed- like infections and cancer, but working just a few hours a week. I am worried about Jamie who works as a department manager in Walmart- his departments are Paper Goods and Household chemicals. He is inundated everyday and has empty shelves. We still see each other frequently but keep ourselves 2 ski poles or one cow length apart. Would love to zoom and have done some zooming. Only one person can talk at a time- that will be interesting with our class!
Hope everyone stays safe, sane and healthy.
