[Oxford63] [Off Topic] Project X

Dear Class,

Back in the '80s I stumbled across the movie "Project X", about the Air
Force using chimpanzees for experimentation. It starred Matthew Broderick,
but the chimps stole the show.

Well...seems it was based on fact. I just received a newsletter that
describes the rescue of 266(!) chimps in Alamogordo, NM - animals that were
originally in Air Force programs. They were saved from future
experimentation by an outfit called the Center for Captive Chimpanzee Care
(CCCC). What really makes the story poignant is that the CCCC is soliciting
food, blankets, toys, stuffed animals, picture books/magazines and
non-toxic crayons. Those chimps may have a future yet!

Good news is hard to come by, so I thought I'd pass on this modest tidbit -
and I hope to visit the Center one day soon.
