[Oxford63] Reunion

Hi everyone,
I do not plan to come to the reunion, but wanted to say hello to you all from my new home in Santa Rosa.  George and I have settled in; we have most of our furniture and all of our basic needs.  Our house is lovely.  It is one story right on the golf course to which we belong, about a 2-minute walk from the clubhouse.  I'm not into golf right now, but I go to yoga at the club 3 times a week and see friends there on other occasions. It's very handy and a safe, comfortable walk home after drinks and dinner.  
I'm 99% sure that we will not rebuild.  We lived on a 5+ acre property, most of which was woods. Our house site was cleaned by the US Army Corps of Engineers, but there are probably 300 dead, burned trees that should eventually be removed.  Whether or not we sell the property, we need to make sure both the septic and well are in working order, the latter requiring a temporary electric hookup.  If I want my flower garden (which survived the fire because it was not near the house) to make it through the summer, I'll need to get irrigation to it.  Naturally it is quite a distance from the well head.
Life would be quite pleasant except for the insurance hassle.  In simplest terms, our insurer, State Farm, lowballed us on the payment for the loss of our dwelling and is doing its best to depreciate the hell out of our personal property.  We have not settled our claim.  I don't like a fight, but I am not walking away from this one.
When this all happened I said to myself that it will be 2 years before our life is normal again.  That is probably about right.  For those who want to rebuild it may take even longer.  It turns out that the city drinking water in one neighborhood is contaminated with benzene as a result of the fire; the city estimates a huge cost and a couple of years to solve the problem.  I doubt the city will issue permits to build on property where there is no safe water.

I think we should go to the lunch at the school so that they’ll take the reunion picture to put in the alumni news. I think they really appreciate that. Then we could think of someplace together for dinner and brunch on Sunday. Looking forward to seeing everyone; can’t believe it’s a been five years. Bonnie
