Loved the photo. No need to read the Laotiantitle (but pretty script). 
Given the countries you visited, have you read the Dr. Siri "mysteries" 
abouta doctor in his 70s in the 1970s, mainly in Laos? The author is 
Colin Cotterill, and the first one is the _Coroner's Lunch_. I'm 
replying to the list in that others might enjoy the books as well.
